Decisions

Okay guys you've probably noticed by now that HFO has been going really, really slowly lately. Thats because of a combination of things, mainly for me its lack of motivation with the game engine. It's starting to really annoy me as of late; out of date, coding complications, using it for so long and not getting anywhere, to name a few. Also a couple staff had a break, school and a couple other things. Now I've discussed with Aby a couple options that we think you guys should be involved in. These are;
  • We can put HFO on hold until we find a suitable game engine
  • We can cancel HFO and give the assests to someone else and start a new mod
  • Continue HFO at a real slow pace, until we find a coder, then it may improve a little
  • Like the first option but start designing another mod while HFO is on hold

What do you guys think?

Re: Decisions

Option four, and I recommend trying to do this on Sins of a Solar Empire.

That's already being done by CanadaMan.

Re: Decisions

Ohh, my bad. How about just waiting for Reach to come out and see how much the canon is altered as a result?

Re: Decisions

I personally see option 4 as perhaps the best, however option 2 also seems somewhat nice in the event that the mod Is cancelled.

My concern is what this new mod would entail, whether it'd be something to appeal to the same audience or if it'd be a new idea and intellectual property.

Regardless of the decision, I await to observe.

Re: Decisions

@nightstalker, no problem. Its just not a matter of things being canon or not, its mostly a matter of having no staff. All that are really left is Ds, Darksidedude and myself. Ds can do some coding, Darksidedude is our awesome concept artist, and I'm a modeler with far too little time.

@Dark, it'll be a whole new parallel universe which is already slowly being created.

To all, one thing that should be mentioned, my own mod, Halo: Fleet Command, will still continue. Should we come back to H:FO later if it were put on hold, we could always move ships that were made in the meantime for H:FC to H:FO.

Re: Decisions

Well, first thing we should look at is: how many people still play EAW? After that, how much of the mod is actually complete? At this point, I would say just put the mod on hold and get to better things. Yea, a massive Halo reskin for EAW would be awesome, but it seems more of a burden than anything else at this point.

Long live Halo;
 long live Star Wars.

Re: Decisions

I think continuing development with H:FC in the meantime would be a good option until we find something else for an engine. Then when we do we can use some of the stuff that was made there in the continued mod.

However, if we want to start a new story, I think we could have people in our modding community contribute to the background of the game like with new horizons

Re: Decisions

I don't think that the modding community should begin with helping to create our new universe. You first need a stable universe before small things can be added. Otherwise you'll get chaos I think. One person says this faction is the biggest and they have the best technology and someone else says the other faction has better tech and even more planets etc.

Oh and darksidedude, did you ever make those drawings? I still want to model that ship. I'd still like you to continue drawing things for H:FC.

Re: Decisions

Well, if we have the members of the community contribute to the backstory, I am a aspiring fanfic writer, who is willing to come up with a faction's general military history and tactics.

Re: Decisions

Well if you want we could all join together to make a universe of our own. However you would need to look for some staff to help, you wont be able to rely on us all the time. So if you can find some people that want to help out, I'll make you guys staff and you can have your own section. And the staff that are here now will lend a hand when ever possible.

Re: Decisions

What do you mean by 'creating a universe of our own?' If you mean creating our own Halo story, I'm all for that. In that case, I actually have a few ideas I've thought about that I think would work pretty well.

-We could make a story about the Halo universe mixing with the Star Wars universe. We can go about it a couple of ways:
1)UNSC forces were fleeing from a battle with the Covenant (typical) over a doomed planet, and were following the Cole Protocol (When Covenant forces are detected in the area, all UNSC ships present are to wipe any and all data concerning other UNSC colonies so the Covenant can't discover them, and when retreating MUST use randomized vectors and NOT set direct courses to UNSC colonies), thus stumbling onto the galaxy adjacent to theirs (which could take a long time, even in slipspace), the SW galaxy.
2)While the Covenant is continuing their genocidal campaign, they stumble onto the galaxy adjacent to theirs, the SW galaxy.

-We could continue the Halo story after Halo 3. Namely, unified UNSC and Elite forces tracking down and destroying the remaining Covenant fleets.

Re: Decisions

Nope, that's just a fanfic. Or perhaps a new mod combining Halo and Star Wars.

What we're talking about is a whole new universe. New factions, new ships, new planets, new people etc.

Re: Decisions

Yeah, a new universe like SD.net's TGG sounds cool

Re: Decisions

No offence intended to those who were and are working on this mod, but I kind of gave up on ever seeing it, and I don't see myself upgrading my PC anytime soon so I can run a new game for it, so I'm for option 3. One of the things that appealed to me about this mod was that it ran on SW: EAW.

I'll go with whatever wins, and I still plan on visiting the forum no matter the outcome.
